The 3 Guaranteed Rewards From ‘Trying’
21 Jun
Yes, we all know that you have to try things to see if they work. If you never try, you'll never know.. (thanks Coldplay) and all that. We know this. Most people don't bother trying to do the potentially rewarding tricky thing that moves them out of their comfort zone. But they know they should, really.
But even if you do try, and apparently 'fail', do you know what you're guaranteed to get? These are three I've thought of:
1. Pride from being someone who tried2. Peace of mind from knowing the outcome
3. Experience (and possibly powerful learning, putting you in a much stronger position than ever before) They're three massive rewards if you asked me. Those who don't try, fail to earn any of them, as well as the top prize. What a loser! Of course, if you try and succeed, then you get these 3 rewards as well as the big one. And if you don't succeed, well, you can try again can't you, and earn these three again, and maybe the big one too. I try a lot of things that I don't pull off. I've had people say to me over the years, "don't you worry about these things not working?" That's upside down thinking in my eyes. I'd worry a lot more about being scared to do anything other than plod along and get told what to do. I'd worry a lot more about stifling my learning and progress. No, I never worry about them not working. Obviously I try to minimise risk and the costs involved. You need to think before jumping. And I'm all for persistence and changing tactics. But I'm open to the fact that they might not work, and I certainly won't settle for guaranteeing that outcome by not trying. You really should try more things out you know. And it hit me today why I get a bit addicted to trying different things (big or small). It's because of the sweet 'buzz' I get from the pride earned for being someone who tried, the peace of mind I gain from knowing for sure, and the experience and lessons learned from acting rather than just thinking, talking and appearing to be someone who's going to do something good with their life. Which is what most people do. All of these rewards help me to keep moving ahead. Not a bad 'failure' to earn oneself.
